Jewellery Care Guide
Sterling Silver & Gold-Plated Jewellery
Sterling silver (or silver 925) is a delicated material used in jewelry but can oxidize when it contacts with surfaces and water.
To keep your gold-plated or sterling silver jewellery as shiny as possible, preventing oxidation, please follow these care tips:
- Avoid contact with chemicals: Keep away from perfumes, lotions, hairspray, and cleaning products as they can damage the plating or cause tarnishing.
- Remove before water exposure: Take off your jewellery before showering, swimming, or exercising to prevent fading and wear.
- Store properly: When not in use, keep pieces in a soft pouch or airtight box to minimize exposure to air and humidity.
- Clean gently: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after each wear to remove natural oils. For silver, a specialised silver polishing cloth may be used. Avoid harsh cleaners.
- Last on, first off: Put jewellery on after applying makeup or perfume, and remove it before undressing and sleeping, to reduce accidental pulling or scratching.
Extra tip for gold-plated jewellery: Gold plating is a delicate finish. To extend its life, avoid friction (e.g., stacking plated rings with other metals) and always store separately.
The more you wear it the more it’s shining!
